How it works

Three things you can do just by talking

No forms. No need to be a writer. Pick a person, say what you want to say, and let your iPhone and Google handle the rest.

Someone in an armchair speaks into a phone, and the words turn into writing on a letter

Write a letter

Speak, and the words land on the page

Pick a person. Speak or type what you want to say, and it goes onto the page. You can add a photo, and your voice recording is kept too.

You can edit or replay any letter, or delete it.

How On a chosen day works: a reminder at 9 AM that morning, then you tap Send to Emma now

02

On a chosen day

A reminder that day, and you send it

Your daughter's 20th birthday. Your grandson's wedding day. At 9 AM that morning, your iPhone reminds you. Tap “Send now,” and an email to their Gmail opens with the photos and recordings attached. You send it yourself.

Don't know the wedding date yet? Write the letter now and add the date later.

How If I'm gone works: Google's Inactive Account Manager passes it to the people you chose

03

If I'm gone

Google passes it on, not us

When your Google account goes unused for a long time, Google's Inactive Account Manager passes the letters in your Google Drive to the people you chose. The app walks you through setup, step by step. It takes about five minutes, and then you're done.

Even if Sayahead shuts down one day, Google still passes them on. And if you're gone before a chosen day, that letter goes along with the rest.

A tidy drawer with file folders, a bankbook, a name seal, a ring of keys, and a handwritten card

Leave a note about something

Beyond what you want to say, you can leave clear notes too

You have life insurance. But does your family know where the policy is?

  • The insurance policy is in the study desk drawer, and here's which agent to call about a claim
  • Which drawer the bank statements are in
  • Where the spare keys are
  • Who to call first if something comes up

No guessing for your family. Each person gets the part that's meant for them.

FAQ

Questions you might have

If Sayahead the company is gone, will my letters still be delivered?

If something happens to you, Google's Inactive Account Manager delivers your letters. They're in your own Google Drive, not with us. So even if Sayahead is gone, Google still passes them on. Letters for a chosen day are sent by you, from your iPhone, on the morning of that day.

How will my family get the letters?

On a chosen day: that morning, your iPhone reminds you. You tap “Send now,” and the letter goes from your iPhone to their Gmail.

If I'm gone: when your Google account goes unused for a long time, Google checks with you first. If you don't respond, Google sends the notification email you wrote ahead of time to each recipient. Each person can then get their own part of the Just-in-Case Pack in your Google Drive.

Do recipients need to use Gmail?

Yes. Recipients need a Gmail address, and you need a Google account too.

Can this be used as a will?

No. Letters and notes you leave in Sayahead don't have the legal effect of a will. For your property, a formal will is what counts.

Does it cost anything?

No. Every feature is free. There are only ads: one shows after you finish a letter. If you'd like to support us, you can pay US$1.99 once and remove ads for life. There's no subscription.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The first time you open the app, it walks you through your first letter. Then it helps you connect Google and set up Inactive Account Manager.

Can anyone else see my letters?

Your letters are stored in your own iCloud. The copy to pass on is in your own Google Drive. We have no servers, so we can't see your letters. The ads don't read them either.

Does it work on iPad or Android?

Right now, it's iPhone only.

What languages is the app in?

The app follows your iPhone's language and shows English, Japanese, or Traditional Chinese. iPhones in Hong Kong and Macau get Hong Kong wording.
